Christ as the reference

Guidance in a changing and confusing world (26%)

1. Christ is the connection with the Church, above all else

2. The figure of the Pope is the other great reference, insofar as it reflects the image of Christ.

3. New generations are discovering Jesus and want more. They find him through digital missionaries, among other sources.

4. Too much self-righteousness (phariseeism), which produces rejection: the self-considered perfect Catholics who make others feel inadequate and condemned.

5. A call for people with faith to follow his example, as a living testimony of what they proclaim

Voice of participants

«My agnostic answer is partly related to my upbringing and also to one of Jesus’ commandments, which governs my life: “Love one another as I have loved you.” Let’s refocus the church’s message on love of our neighbour»

“Anchor the vocation of people consecrated to Christ to a real imitation of his word, giving a real-life example of living with greater joy and warmth, noticeably and truly loving life and nature, and therefore, their neighbour.”

“Accept every human being as God’s creature and equal to ourselves”

“Sometimes with our attitudes we encourage discrimination in the Church. I hope we can listen more to each other and be the image Jesus asks of us…”

The Magisterium, the Bible

The Magisterium

“The same Christ who, by his cross, saved us from our sins, today continues to save and redeem us by the power of his total self-surrender. Look to his cross, cling to him, let him save you, for “those who accept his offer of salvation are set free from sin, sorrow, inner emptiness and loneliness”. And if you sin and stray far from him, he will come to lift you up by the power of his cross.
Never forget that “he forgives us seventy times seven. Time and time again, he bears us on his shoulders. No one can strip us of the dignity bestowed upon us by this boundless and unfailing love. With a tenderness that never disappoints but is always capable of restoring our joy, he makes it possible for us to lift up our heads and to start anew”

The Gospel

“I am the way and the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me.”

How to move forward?

Theological standpoint

It is necessary to boost knowledge about the human figure of Jesus through the Bible in order to understand that his example is the way to salvation. Remembering that Jesus is humanity’s heritage. Place the word of Jesus and the celebration of the Eucharist at the centre of Christian life.

Moral-behavioral standpoint

The faith of the Church is based on that of the Apostles, deep-rooted in their personal encounter with the Risen Jesus. This is why it is necessary to make it easier for people to meet Him, announcing Him first, to make Him known. This mission is the first task of the Church.

Structural and organisational standpoint

Create formative spaces on the Gospels, their historical and social foundations, and the context in which Jesus developed his life and teachings.

Pastoral-pedagogical standpoint

For believers, promote the use of digital channels so that everyone can read the Gospel of the day, with commentary that will aid its understanding.
For non-believers, present the human figure of Jesus and boost the quality and depth of preaching, encouraging reflection from the people of God.
